Weekend Update: Lowcountry Splash

A Memorial Day weekend endurance event tradition, the 2018 Lowcountry Splash went off without a hitch, although the seas were really choppy.  We had team members participating in both the 2.4 mile and 5 mile open water swims.

2.4 miles

Melisa and Robin rocked the 2.4 mile swim- both finishing in under 51 minutes. After working 3 12-hour shifts in a row, Melisa powered through and finished in the top 10. Robin crushed it in her first EVER long open water swim, coming in right behind Melisa. I am so proud of her for accomplishing this goal, and I am thrilled these ladies finished 40 seconds apart so they could celebrate together.

5 miles

I am so proud of Joelle, Missy and Jane in completing the 5 miler.  And, as usual, Official Team Cheerleader Shannon was at the finish to share in the experience.  She’s such an important part of our team and is participating in her first triathlon in a few weeks. Stayed tuned on more about that!

Joelle is now a veteran longer distance swimmer and she rocked it.  Finishing in 1:41 she brought home a 3rd place in her AG.  Woo-hoo!  Her next swim event will be Swim Around Charleston- a 12 miler- solo.  Bad ass!

Missy kicked all her fears asses by doing the long distance swim.   She finished in 1:44 and I believe there are more of these to come in her athletic career.

And although I have no pictures of our Jane, she finished a few minutes later in her first 5 miler.  After what she herself would call, “A comedy of errors,” she persevered and finished strong.

We’ll be taking next week off but coming back strong the following for the Charleston Sprint Triatlon series #2.
